Bienal do Cartaz do Colorado, 1990
O cartaz realizado por João Machado para a 12ª edição da Expomóvel – Exposição do Mobiliário e Iluminação esteve em destaque na Colorado International Poster Exhibition, uma bienal de cartazes realizada em Fort Collins, nos Estados Unidos da América. João Machado foi um dos 95 artistas convidados, provenientes de 26 países, numa mostra de mais de 170 cartazes do mundo inteiro, realizada nas galerias Curfman e Hatton da Colorado State University.

The poster made for the 12th edition of Expomóvel – Furniture and Lighting Exhibition was displayed at the Colorado International Poster Exhibition, a poster biennial held in Fort Collins, United States of America. João Machado was one of the 95 invited designers, from 26 different countries, in an exhibition of more than 170 posters from all over the world, held in the Curfman and Hatton Galleries at the Colorado State University.

Edições ASA, 1988
Em 1988, as Edições ASA publicam um álbum de cartazes de João Machado. Um álbum em grande formato (29,5x40,5cm), com reproduções a cores de 50 posters que documentam o trabalho realizado pelo artista gráfico entre 1982 e 1988. Esta é a segunda iniciativa das Edições ASA, que haviam publicado um álbum em 1983 com 21 desenhos de João Machado.

ASA Editions, 1988
In 1988, ASA Editions published an album of posters by João Machado. A large format album (29,5x40,5 cm), with 50 color reproductions which covers the work of the artist between 1982 and1988. The same editor has previously published (1983) an album of 21 drawings.

João Machado aceitou o convite da Câmara Municipal do Porto para desenhar um cartaz de homenagem ao Futebol Clube do Porto aquando a vitória Taça Intercontinental em 1987.

Colaboração AIP, 1986
Fruto da colaboração com a AIP – Associação Industrial Portuense, que se estendeu por um período de mais de 10 anos, João Machado realizou um conjunto de cartazes para diversos eventos, como HABITAT’88, AUTOPOR, EMAF, a par de outras iniciativas desta entidade, como a Maquitex, a Campispor ou a Expomóvel, entre outras.

AIP Collaboration, 1986
As a result of more than 10 years of collaboration with AIP – Porto Industrial Association, João Machado produced the posters for many different events, such as HABITAT’88, AUTOPOR, EMAF, along with other initiatives, such as Maquitex, Campispor or Expomóvel.

João Machado realizou o cartaz Auto Quand tu Nous Tiens, uma peça de teatro em torno da dependência do homem pelo automóvel, organizada pelo Centre d’Action Culturelle Bonlieu Annecy em 1986, nessa localidade francesa.

For the Centre d’Action Culturelle Bonlieu Annecy in France, João Machado produced the poster for a theatre play about men’s dependence for automobiles.
VI Bienal de Cerveira, 1986
A VI Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira, realizada em 1988, é dedicada ao Design Gráfico, constituindo a maior iniciativa do tipo realizada no nosso país até à data. A iniciativa partiu de José Rodrigues, diretor da Bienal, com João Machado e João Nunes. São vários os eventos integrados, com destaque para as exposições de Armando Alves, João Machado, João Nunes, Henrique Cayatte, José Brandão, Sebastião Rodrigues e João Abel Manta, a par da mostra do acervo da revista Gráfica (Brasil), , a coleção de cartazes da Empresa Gráfica do Bolhão, o património publicitário da Casa Ramos Pinto e uma mostra de artistas gráficos galegos. Destaque ainda para as conferências de Oswaldo Miranda, Abraham Moles e Phil Risbeck.

VI Biennial of Cerveira, 1986
The VI International Biennial of Art held in Vila Nova de Cerveira, 1988 (at this time the largest and most important initiative of this type known in Portugal) was dedicated to Graphic Design and it was organized by José Rodrigues, João Machado and João Nunes. Several events occurred, including the exhibitions of Armando Alves, João Machado, João Nunes, Henrique Cayatte, José Brandão, Sebastião Rodrigues and João Abel Manta, along with the graphic collection of Gráfica magazine (Brazil), the collection of posters of the Empresa Gráfica do Bolhão, the heritage of Casa Ramos Pintoand an exhibition of Galician graphic artists. Also noteworthy for the conferences of Oswaldo Miranda, Abraham Moles and Phil Risbeck.

Semana de Macau, 1984
João Machado desenhou em 1984 o cartaz da Semana de Macau organizado pelo Governo de Macau em Portugal, para a promoção da cultura e indústria da ex-colónia portuguesa, dois anos antes de iniciarem as negociações da transferência administrativa para a República Popular da China. O evento foi organizado com o apoio da Associação Industrial Portuense, hoje a Associação Empresarial de Portugal. Decorreu no Porto, no Palácio de Cristal.
Macau Week, 1984
In 1984 João Machado made the poster for the big event called Macau Week, commissioned by Nuno Barreto and organized by the Macau Government in Portugal, towards the promotion of the culture and industry of the former Portuguese colony, two years before the start of the negotiations regarding the administrative transfer to China. The event was organized with the support of the Oporto Industrial Association. The event occurred in Porto, at Palácio de Cristal.
Cultura Americana, 1980-85
Em 1980 decorria no Porto, no Centro de Arte Contemporânea, a Semana da Cultura Americana, organizada pelo American Cultural Council. Em 1984, esta entidade representante da cultura norte-americana em Portugal junta-se ao American Language Institute para organizar um novo Ciclo de Cultura Americana, que se volta a repetir em 1985. Todos os cartazes foram realizados por João Machado
American Culture Week, 1980-85
Held in Porto (1980) at the Contemporary Art Center, this event was organized by the American Cultural Council. Later in 1985, this same institution joined the American Language Institute and organized a new American Culture Cycle. For both purposes, the posters were made by João Machado.
